Bandhani is the type of block prints, tie and dye and embroidered fabrics with mirror work. Bandhani or tie & dye work comes from Rajasthan and Gujarat. The term “bandhani” derives from a Hindi word Bandhan which means tying up.
The main colours used in Bandhani are yellow, green, red and black. The fabric is skillfully knotted and dyeing. The most commonly used patterns in this technique are dots, circles, squares, waves and stripes. These Stripes or the ripple effect is famously known as Laheriya. Now this art of India got attention through out the world.
The colours used are traditionally based on vegetable dyes. Tie and dye cloth is never too expensive but that the colours always run. So if you’ve bought silk, it’s safer to get it dry-cleaned.
